Alfie Shrubb 8km Classic Run : June 4th

Here is a message from our good friend Al Storie:

I am Pumped and Excited about our 4th Annual Alfie Shrubb 8k Classic coming up June 4th 2006. This year the race will be even more exciting and with even greater value. Last year most of you who receive this message from Ken came to Alfie, and I thank you for that support. You won't want to miss this years event. This year we have added a Technical T-shirt and it will be proudly worn by many, I am proud to offer this as Durham's first technical shirt. The race is $30.00 till June 1st and then if you are a weather watcher and sign up late it is $35.00. We will have only 400 technical shirts so sign up early.

There is so much I could say about Alfie Shrubb, so much has happened since February 2003 when I came upon his name in Bowmanville. Last month I ran on a new street in Bowmanville, Alfred Shrubb Lane, it was an honour to run on this new street.

Many will be coming to Bowmanville on June 4th and I hope you will decide to come along and help revive history. You can sign up ON-LINE at www.runningroom.com or visit your local Running Room. The name of Alfred Shrubb is getting international exposure with our web site, check out www.alfieshrubb.ca

Below Ed Whitlock has indicated he is planning to come to Alfie if healthy. Come on and join Ed, I know many will try to beat him.

Running Pal AL

Hi Al.
Your date is on my calendar. Unfortunately I have a problem with my ankle at the moment and I am not running. Hopefully this will have cleared up by June, but who knows. Great that your efforts to recognise Mr Shrubb are bearing fruit.

Ed

I have also included an article about the heated rivalry between Alfred Shrubb and Tom Longboat in my articles section. Click here to read this great piece of history.
