Report on the last 5 peaks race of the season

Hi...Well it was the most technical, elevated (1200 ft) run...(let's say trot) that I have done. It was foggy and dense forest with a couple of open spaces on gravel road and meadow (bog). When the sun came out the forest just steamed. The trails in the woods were single tracked and switched back frequently. Most of it was not like the trails I'm accustomed to as it went over the forest floor as if you were running off the trail in glen rouge.

Flags for markers but no km markers and my garmin froze trying to pick up a gps (impossible). I had to keep my eyes to the ground at all times. It was a fast pack of young men with only 6 females for the enduro. As the lead runners went out flags were trampled and difficult to find at times. Twice I just stood still and waited for a runner behind me to come along to find our way. In my head..I'd say what would Coach Ken tell me to do now as I was completely on my own for the better part of the run.

It was a real challenge and will make me a better trail runner. All in all...a good experience but very different. I came away with a hat and sunglasses and another 1st but only because of my age. We had a great B & B, lunch on a patio in Wakefield with a cold beer and a visit with my nephew who just moved to Ottawa. Check out the 5 peaks site to see the maps of the routes and the results to see the wildly different paces for sport vs enduro.
