Soaked!

Okay, after writing all that last week about the snow and the wind, I went out and did it all again this past Sunday. Most of the run was perfect with only short bursts of rain throughout the run. This rain was "heavy at times". But the same thing happened on the faithful turn towards home. The sporadic bursts of rain turned into a steady and heavy rainfall coupled with a 25km East wind that we were running into. This was enough to plaster whatever water and wind resistant clothing we were wearing right to our bodies. This Turkey was done!

Character building runs like this only come along once in a while and I count myself lucky that I have had two in as many weeks. So what have I learned? Firstly, I have learned to invest in quality pieces of running apparel, a jacket that I can trust, a pair of decent shoes that aren't going to break down, socks that won't turn to rags and gloves that will repel water. Second, I have learned to trust in myself and be assured that I have the mental and physical fortitude to run through anything that comes my way. Lastly, I have learned to pick run routes according to the weather and road conditions. While we were heading into the chops of the wind for the majority of the run home, we did have shelter, a few places to stop and refill or warm up, and the route home was quite safe and familiar (very important when you are both beat-up and beat-down). Would I do it again? What does the weather look like for this Weekend?
